Turk Wendell
Turk Wendell brushes his teeth between innings, won't step on foul lines, and chews infield dirt instead of tobacco. Oh, and he will not make the Hall of Fame.
Since we're talking about one another through the media.

Yankee Nation Is Just Sick
So now we're hearing that Greg Maddux could be going--SURPRISE!!--to the Yankees. And one must imagine that to further spite the Red Sox, New York will head over to Scottsdale to pry the head and body of Ted Williams out of the vat at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation and sign it to a three-year deal worth the $111,000 that John Henry allegedly owes them.
Seems to me that Greg Maddux is one of those bigger name free-agents that the Giants could afford to spend money on, in this their winter of financial discontent. Doesn't sound like he's going for all that much, relatively speaking. He may not be the Candy Cummings he once was, but still, to have Greg Maddux, I mean, come on.

Stanford-Cal Rivalry Hits Portland
Good to see old college buddy Matt from The New Giant Thrill checking in with us here at a P-Town bowling alley over the weekend. First we had a Giants fan moment, and then I commented on his svelte new look being a mere sliver of his college-day, Ruben-Studdard-like rumblin's. Then, he dropped a "Nice Cal hat, geek breath" or whatever he called me. Then I said, hey, Cal's gonna win. Then, I took out my History of Time watch and stopped it at halftime, when the Bears were up 4. Let's not check the final. All things said and done for now, Cal is going to be the spoiler in that Pac-10 bracket in March. And they are still on track to win the NCAA tournament, as I predicted in December. (And then I will defeat Fantasia to win American Idol 3.)

E.K. Nation Invades The Windy City
We here at E.K. Nation are making the papers. Check out this Sun-Times' "Quick Takes" column from Tuesday, and the bit under the headline "Same-day delivery"...
Then...Check out this column from Wednesday, with the bit under "Birthdays I"...
Finally...there's today's column, under the headline "Untangling 'Ties' that bind"...
We are a star. We're a star, We're a star, We're a star. We are a big, bright, shining star.

The No. 42 Award
Here is a great idea put forth by an ESPN.com editorial concerning the legacy of Jackie Robinson and a new proposed honor for baseball players that would keep the legacy alive.
