Random Thoughts

The 49ers are finding new and interesting ways to lose this year. First, a guy forgets to call a timeout, then a QB with a sprained ankle and a broken leg brings Cleveland back from a 12-0 deficit in the fourth quarter, and then last night in Seattle, when a botched extra point!!! was the difference. Unbelievable. This fall has not been a particularly good time to be a fan of San Francisco teams.

Don Zimmer should have been ejected from Game 3. What the hell is he doing attacking Pedro Martinez? Yes, Pedro was being a jackass hothead, but you simply do not physically attack anyone on the ballfield. Not only was Pedro not the villain there; he did Zimmer a favor. How fast do you think he could have kicked Popeye's ass if he wanted to? And look at the fines: Of the four fines handed out by MLB, Zimmer got fined the least. Zim, next time you want to attack someone who can boot your butt over the Green Monster, make sure you've got that Army helmet on.

(Zimmer apologizes, Red Sox accept begrudgingly, Mercury News columnist nonplussed, San Diego columnist agrees with me about the DH being somewhat responsible for brawls.)

How amazing would it be to see the Cubs clinch the N.L. pennant and their spot in the World Series with a victory at home, in the Friendly Confines? Talk about The Great Chicago Fire!

It's nice to see the Hottest Game On Ice make a return. Go Avalanche.

I realize I forgot to make my NFL picks last week. Aahhh, big deal. You're not going to Vegas with any info you get from here, right?
