Nice Job, K. Wood

The phrase "helping his own cause" applies nicely. Kerry, a bit pissed that his Cub teammates were coming up on their second bases-loaded rally without a run, got his bat in gear and, after the Cubs tied it on a grounder that should have been a double play, walloped a shot to the gap that scored two runs and gave the Cubs the runs they'd need to beat Atlanta in Game 1. It wasn't exactly a home run, as I had predicted, but it was satisfying enough. As a Giants fan I don't think I'd want to face the Cubs in the next round, but as a baseball fan in general, I'd simply like the Braves to lose. And last night's contest went a long ways towards that.

Three games yesterday, three today. Good pitching overall yesterday, just twelve runs in those three games. Looking ahead to today's Giants-Marlins game, we find Brad Penny going up against Sidney Ponson. Their records lately are heading in opposite directions (Penny has won his last three decisions while Ponson had lost his last three). However, I did see Ponson shut down the Diamondbacks in person in Phoenix a month ago today, and he's a better pitcher than his record shows (3-6 with the Giants although he's 17-12 overall this year including his Orioles stats). Something tells me the Marlins will go ahead and win, maybe 6-2. I hope I am wrong.

Is it Just Me...? Or would Russ Ortiz look just like actor Josh Charles if Russ lost a few pounds?
