Avs Lose Kariya, Pick Up Konowalchuk
On the heels of Paul Kariya's sprained wrist--errr, or something like that--the Avalanche has picked up Steve Konowalchuk from Washington in exchange for Bates Battaglia and forward prospect Jonas Johansson. It's not a blockbuster but it will help give a bit of punch to this so-far lackluster chilled-agua squad.
Although David Aebischer (3-2, 1.82 GAA, 1 SO) doesn't look too bad in his first go-around as top goalkeeper, I'm still wondering if the Avs will pick up somebody like CuJo. It may come in handy during the playoff run, where Aebischer is pretty much untested.
Singularly Speaking...: I'm not one of those people who use plural verbs with a singular noun like "Avalanche." To me, the Avalanche does something, not do something. We're not in England, folks ("And this football crowd are going wild!!"). But the one thing I haven't figured out yet is what to call an individual player from the team. Is he an Avalanche himself? Or is he a Snowflake?
What of a Miami Heat player? Is he a Degree? Is an individual Utah Jazz player a Note? As long as we don't get started on the Minnesota Wild, for Chrissakes. Erudite as I am, I can't think of anything there. Can you? Send me an e-mail at sfgiantsfan921@yahoo.com with ideas.
